Nepal has one of the highest proportions of migrant workers worldwide. Migration to India, in particular, often involves seasonal work without formal contracts and carries significant risks. Many migrants travel without sufficient information about their rights and the available protection services. The consequences for these migrants and their families are often severe. Women are especially affected by the social and economic impacts.
What moves us
Together with SOSEC Nepal, we aim to change this situation. Together, we are strengthening local structures that support migrants before, during, and after migration. We are also working to ensure that their protection applies to those who migrate to India through informal channels.
How We Work
Migration Information Centers (MICs) provide low-threshold access to reliable information about rights and protection services, especially for individuals migrating to India via the open border. Community-based groups foster environments of mutual support and collective action. Agricultural training and microenterprise support create local income opportunities. Through targeted collaboration with local authorities, we ensure that migrants' concerns are addressed.
Conversations with those affected and home visits form the foundation of our project work.
Working Together from the Start: The project begins with the involvement of local authorities and decision-makers.
Self-help groups strengthen community cohesion and facilitate the exchange of information through regular meetings.
Local networks are being established to provide migrants with better access to information and protection.

Securing Food, Preventing Disasters
In the Gaibandha district of northern Bangladesh, floods, heatwaves and riverbank erosion pose a constant threat to the livelihoods of many people year after year. Crops are destroyed, homes are damaged and roads become impassable. The consequences are hunger and poverty. That is why, together with our local partner organisation, Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), we are specifically strengthening disaster preparedness and food security on the ground.
