In Bidibidi, northern Uganda, most people depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. But low yields, limited farming techniques and the effects of the climate crisis mean that food security is often precarious. Many families live on the edge of poverty with few alternative income opportunities. Women, young mothers and people with disabilities face multiple disadvantages.
Our project supports these groups in particular: Through farmer and savings groups, participants learn about healthy nutrition, climate-resilient agriculture and marketing. Collective savings create new opportunities: affordable loans enable investment in education, health care or the creation of small businesses.
Thanks to the support of our savings group, I have been able to expand my swordfish business. I regularly take out loans, invest, and always repay on time. Today, I am able to provide for my family - together with my husband, we have built a house with a tin roof. The sense of community and the knowledge we've gained from the group have changed our lives forever.

Growing vegetables in kitchen gardens, newly planted fruit trees, and improved cooking techniques also contribute to food security. In addition, dialogue forums promote peaceful coexistence between refugee and local families - and strengthen the joint protection of natural resources.
A particular focus is on empowering women, encouraging them to take a more active role in decision-making and giving them better access to information on family planning and reproductive health.
