More and more women in Mexico are leaving their homes in search of better living conditions. They migrate not only because of economic hardship, but also to protect themselves from violence, persecution, crime and the effects of climate change.

The project has helped me to transform my frustration at the irresponsibility of decision-makers into creative ways of restoring the dignity and rights of migrant women and their families. For the future, I hope that migrant women can live in safety and that a social infrastructure is created that respects their diversity and includes their rights.

For a life without violence: Supporting Migrant Women in Mexico
Together with our long-standing partner organisation IMUMI (Instituto para las Mujeres en la Migración), we are committed to ensuring that migrant women can exercise their rights and lead self-determined lives free from discrimination and violence. A feminist approach to the challenges of migration and the protection of human rights are central to this. Social workers, known as promotoras, carry out information and education work in the communities to raise awareness and prevent violence and discrimination against migrants. They also provide women and their families with legal assistance and help with access to education, health care and family reunification. Close cooperation with other civil society organisations helps to strengthen the rights of migrant women and their families at national and international level and to promote reforms in migration policies.
