Uganda

Although the Republic of Uganda has achieved significant successes in poverty reduction over the past two decades, it is one of the least "developed" countries in the world. countries: In the Human Development Index (HDI), Uganda is ranked 163 (out of 188).

Uganda is threatened by extreme drought and crop failures, yet the country accepts refugees from neighbouring countries: Uganda has taken in more than a million people, especially refugees from Southern Sudan.

Food security in the refugee settlement Bidi Bidi

Bidi Bidi in northern Uganda is the largest refugee camp in Africa. Only about 25 percent of the refugees in the settlements are supplied with sufficient food. But the situation in the host communities is also precarious. Together with our partner organization AFARD, we are helping to improve the food situation.

Most people in Isingiro in western Uganda live from agriculture. But droughts, water shortages and the limited usable land lead to a precarious food situation in the communities and refugee settlements.

Inclusive food security in northern Uganda

The Lamwo district in northern Uganda is one of the poorest in the country. Nevertheless, the people take in refugees from neighbouring countries. Together with our partner organization UCOBAC, we support the host communities and the refugees.
